HEALTH SCIENCES ALUMNI PORTAL

The Faculty of Health Sciences has graduated more than 26 000 health care practitioners since it first opened its doors to the public. This year, we commemorate a century of teaching excellence since 1919, and we invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone!

The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Martin Veller, commenced the celebrations by joining Alumni in Sydney, London and Oxford earlier this year.

In South Africa, we are excited to announce that the Faculty will be hosting the Annual Alumni Week from 19 - 21 September 2019. Details of the various activities and events can be found below.

Remember - RSVP early to avoid missing out. We have an exciting line up of special guests that we cannot wait to share with you!

A J Orenstein Lecture

An inaugural lecture, held in 1962 at the inception of the Adler Museum of Medicine, was delivered by Major General Orenstein under the auspices of the Adler Museum and the Medical Graduates Association. Since that date, 38 lectures have been held. In 1974 the name was changed to the AJ Orenstein Memorial lecture to perpetuate the memory of the late Major General Orenstein who died on 7 July 1972 and to commemorate the part he played in the establishment of the medical services in the mining industry. This was done at the suggestion and decision of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa. In this and subsequent years, the lecture was arranged in alternative years by the Chamber of Mines and the Adler Museum of Medicine.

We are proud to announce that the 2019 A J Orenstein lecture will be led by Professor Johnny Mahlangu under the topic “A crippling lifelong inherited Royal Disease – Leaping from Prevention to Cure. Haemophilia over the years".
